The TREK program is designed to evaluate the occurrence of what is commonly referred to as "travelers' diarrhea". It is estimated that people traveling to Latin America have a 50 percent risk of developing diarrhea, most commonly caused by bacteria. IOMAI has developed an investigational vaccine that may protect against travelers’ diarrhea. The program will evaluate the study vaccine to determine if it may prevent or lessen the symptoms of travelers' diarrhea from developing.
